Wezup is an ideal starting point for visits to the attractions in the area. The picturesque village Oud Aalden is 3 kms away, and Orvelte, the best-known village in the province, is 5 kms away. A listed village, Orvelte has lost none of its original character and charm. The lovingly restored farmhouses offer regular guided tours providing information on traditional rural and village crafts, and you can enjoy a leisurely hour or two viewing the sights in an open horse-drawn cart (available by advanced booking). Of the 54 megalithic dolmens (stone-age burial sites) in the province of Drenthe, you can visit three of them on foot from Wezup. There are two golf courses within a distance of 3 kms (a nine-hole and an eighteen-hole facility). The area around Wezup possesses a variety of bicycle paths which wind through many-sided and ever-changing nature reserves of woodland and moors. The nature reserves at Sleenerzand, Orvelterveld and Mantingerveld are excellent for long walks and hiking. Birdwatchers can make very good observations of al kinds of birds, especially in the wetlands of the Geeserstroom, 10 minutes driving from Wezup.

The zoo at Emmen, famous for its butterfly pavilion, is well worth a visit. The area around Wezup also caters to the pleasures of the palate, offering everything from the rusitic pannenkoekenhuis (pancake restaurants) to haute cuisine restaurant.
